“You will either learn to manage money, or the lack of it will manage you.”

– Dave Ramsey

I ended up losing all of my money.

Not once, but TWICE in my life.

And I am deeply grateful for that because it was a huge wake-up call to me.

It told me this: “Ilze, you don’t have a relationship with money where you are looking after it. You have a relationship where you think money comes in to be spent.”

This was certainly not the type of relationship I wished to have with money.

So, I decided that I would court money, choosing to see money as a romantic partner I was interested in building a flourishing relationship with.

I called my money, Mr Money, and did all the things one would do when in a romantic relationship with someone.

Doing so helped me cultivate a beautiful relationship with money, and I am certain that it can do the same for you.

Here are 4 things you can do to cultivate that relationship with Mr/Mrs Money:

  1. Show money love and affection

When you think about the money in your life, do you feel love and affection toward it?

Or are you distrustful toward money and feel as if it doesn’t stick around?

You can show money love and affection by speaking about it in a more positive way and refraining from complaining about it to all who will listen.

  1. Give money attention

Everything in life responds to increased attention, and money is no exception.

Give money attention by focusing your energy on it and spending time with it.

Spend time planning around it. What are your future plans with money?

How do you plan to look after money?

  1. Respect money

As it is with a romantic partner, if you don’t respect and value money, it will walk out on you.

Think about how you are treating money.

Are you squandering funds? Spending money faster than it comes in,

on things you don’t really need?

Respect your money by being mindful of your spending.

  1. Learn about money

Invest some time in growing your knowledge of money.

As you would take the time to get to know a romantic partner, “get to know” money as well.

Read up on money, look into courses and webinars, ask your friends and family — there is an abundance of resources readily available.

Speaking of resources, I am hosting a free webinar on Zoom on the 10th of August from 6 – 7 pm CAT. It is all about the Psychology of Meaningful Money.

I am going to be sharing many tips and techniques I’ve learned through the years as a wealth psychologist, and I would so love to have you there.

So, drop me an email at ilze@ilzealberts.com or send me a WhatsApp if:

  • You would like to attend my free webinar
  • You wish to have a better relationship with Mr/Mrs money and would like more guidance on how to do just that.

From my heart to yours,

Ilze
